Certificate of Current Professional Status (CCPS) for physician associates and anaesthesia associates

What do I need to provide?

If you’ve been registered or licensed with another healthcare authority or regulator in the UK or overseas within the last five years, you’ll need to provide us with evidence of your good standing. You'll need to do this even if you've not worked in that country.

Regulators usually provide a Certificate of Current Professional Status (also known as a Certificate of Good Standing) as evidence of your good standing. Where possible, please ask the regulator to email the certificate to us directly.

If you’ve been registered/licensed as a PA/AA overseas, you’ll need to contact that authority to see if they can issue you with a CCPS.

Regulators/other healthcare authorities may send you a certificate of past good standing (CPGS) if you're not currently registered or licensed with them.

Each certificate is only valid for three months from the date it's signed. It must be valid when we approve your application.

The CCPS must:

  • cover all of your periods of registration/work in the overseas country
  • confirm what profession the registration/licence covers
  • confirm that you've not been disqualified, suspended or prohibited from practising
  • confirm that the regulatory authority is not aware of any matters that call into question your good standing.

If there is no regulatory authority in an overseas country where you have practised, we may ask you to provide an employer reference form.

How do I get a certificate of current professional status?

Each organisation has their own process which they follow, so we recommend you look at their website for more information about how to obtain evidence of good standing. However, there are some specific processes to follow for NMC and HCPC:

Nursing and Midwifery Council

To request a CCPS from the NMC, you should email verifications@nmc-uk.org and quote your NMC Pin and full name. The NMC will send the CCPS directly to the GMC.

The Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Current registrants should be able to order a CCPS via the online portal. Previous registrants may need to telephone HCPC to request their certificate. Further information can be found on their website.

Here are some of the other UK authorities we’re aware of and where possible, links to further information. You may need to contact individual organisations directly for further information and guidance on obtaining a CCPS.
