Please provide a Diploma di abilitazione all'esercizio della medicina e chirurgia (diploma conferring the right to practise medicine and surgery) issued by either an Italian university or State Examining Commission of Italy.

I’ve completed Foundation Year 1 (F1)

We need a Certificate of Experience completed by a designated representative. This will be sent directly to us from your Foundation School.

I completed my basic medical training

If you have not previously held provisional registration, the documents you will need to send to us depend on the date you completed your basic medical training. 

On or after 20 December 1976

Please provide a Diploma di Laurea in medicina e chirurgia (graduate in medicine and surgery) or a Diploma di Laurea specialistica in medicina e chirurgia Issued by an Italian university and a Diploma di abilitazione all'esercizio della medicina e chirurgia (diploma conferring the right to practise medicine and surgery) Issued by either The State Examining Commission of Italy or an Italian university.

In March 2020, the Italian system changed from a postgraduate internship to a pre-graduate internship and Diploma di abilitazione all'esercizio della medicina e chirurgia certificates are no longer issued. Only applicants who hold a certificate issued before March 2020 are eligible to apply for full registration on the basis of that certificate. Alternative documents with the title ‘Diploma di abilitazione all'esercizio della medicina e chirurgia’ issued since March 2020 are not acceptable and applicants who graduated after March 2020 will need to provide alternative evidence to obtain full registration. 

On or before 19 December 1976

Please provide a Diploma di Laurea in medicina e chirurgia (graduate in medicine and surgery) or a Diploma di Laurea specialistica in medicina e chirurgia issued by an Italian university and a Diploma di abilitazione all'esercizio della medicina e chirurgia (diploma conferring the right to practise medicine and surgery) issued by either The State Examining Commission of Italy or an Italian university.

You must also provide one of the following:

• A document which confirms the training leading to the award of your Italian primary medical qualification meets the standards detailed in Article 24 of the Directive. This must be issued by the Ministero della Salute (Ministry of Health)

OR:

• A document which confirms that you have effectively and lawfully been engaged in actual medical practice for at least three consecutive years during the five years immediately before the award of the certificate (as detailed in Article 23.1 of the Directive).This must be issued by the Ministero della Salute or the competent authority of the EEA country or Switzerland where you are now working.

Entry onto the Specialist Register

I have a Relevant European Specialist qualification

Your specialty must be listed on our Relevant European qualification list by the country that awarded it. If your specialist qualification is listed, but you do not already hold full registration you should apply for full registration with a licence to practise and entry onto the Specialist Register at the same time.

I completed my specialist training on or after 20 December 1976

Please send us a Diploma di medico specialista, rilasciati dal rettore di una universita (diploma of specialised doctor) issued by a rector of an Italian university

I completed my specialist training on or before 19 December 1976

Entry onto the GP Register

I completed my GP training on or after 31 December 1994

Please provide an Attesto di formazione specifica in medicina generale (certificate of specific training for general medical practice) issued by Ministero della Salute.

I completed my GP training on or before 30 December 1994
