- Summary
- When we assess whether an overseas primary medical qualification is acceptable
- When and how to check your primary medical qualification is acceptable
- Our criteria for acceptable overseas qualifications
We assess an overseas primary medical qualification (PMQ) when:
- a doctor asks us to – for example, because their awarding body is not available to select when setting up a GMC Online account
- we identify the need to as part of assessing information provided by a doctor when setting up a GMC Online account, or as part of an application
- we receive a request from the awarding body or institution (for example because we have not assessed its PMQ before)
- evidence we receive raises a question about whether an overseas PMQ which we accept continues to satisfy our criteria
An assessment of an individual’s PMQ may result in the qualification being found:
- acceptable at this time
- not currently acceptable.
We will share the outcome of our assessment with the individual or institution concerned.
