“On 26 October 2023 Dr Farrar responded twice to an online Google review from a former patient. Dr Farrar's responses to the review included information that breached the patient’s confidentiality without their consent.
This conduct does not meet with the standards required of a doctor. It risks bringing the profession into disrepute and it must not be repeated. The required standards are set out in Good medical practice and associated guidance. In this case, paragraph 5 of Confidentiality: responding to criticism in the media (2017) is particularly relevant:
5. You must not put information you have learned in confidence about a patient in the public domain without that patient’s explicit consent. You should usually limit your public response to an explanation of your legal and professional duty of confidentiality.
Whilst this failing in itself is not so serious as to require any restriction on Dr Farrar's registration, it is necessary in response to issue this formal warning.
This warning will be published on the medical register in line with our publication and disclosure policy, which can be found at www.gmc-uk.org/disclosurepolicy”
