Creating respectful fair and compassionate workplaces
- Summary
- Creating respectful fair and compassionate workplaces
- Promoting patient centred care
- Helping to tackle discrimination
There’s a new ‘must’ paragraph to ‘help to create a culture that is respectful, fair, supportive and compassionate by role modelling behaviours consistent with these values’ (paragraph 52). And the existing paragraph to show respect towards colleagues has been explained further (in paragraphs 48 and 49):
- ‘You must treat colleagues with kindness, courtesy and respect’
- ‘You must listen to colleagues…communicate clearly, politely and considerately…recognise and show respect for colleagues’ skills and contributions…work collaboratively with colleagues and be willing to lead or follow as the circumstances require’.
There’s a new ‘must’ paragraph for doctors with formal leadership or management roles - they must ‘take active steps to create an environment in which people can talk about errors and concerns safely’ (paragraph 76).
