The foundation programme is a two year period of training for doctors who have just graduated from medical school. Foundation Year 1 (F1) allows doctors to put into practice the key skills and knowledge they have learnt during undergraduate medical education and prepare for practising as a fully registered doctor in the UK.

Every year we run a comprehensive national training survey that gives doctors an opportunity to give confidential feedback on their training. We ask doctors in F1 a series of questions on how prepared they felt for their first foundation post. The survey results for these questions are displayed in the F1 preparedness report. It shows the variation in preparedness of doctors graduating from different medical schools as well as variation across different demographics.
