- Responsibilities
Postgraduate deanery or local office administrator
As a deanery or local office administrator you are responsible for submitting programme and location approval requests in GMC Connect.
If you don't yet have a GMC Connect account, please email quality@gmc-uk.org with your full name, organisation, and the reason you need access.
Postgraduate dean
As a postgraduate dean, you have accountability for placing doctors in training in environments that meet our standards, and making sure local systems are in place to identify and respond to concerns about the standards not being met.
In signing (or delegating) the request for approval to a local office/deanery administrator you are declaring that these systems are in place.
Educational supervisor or training programme director
As an educational supervisor or training programme director you have a responsibility to check that locations are approved for a programme before placing doctors in training there. If a location hasn’t been approved, you should notify your deanery or local office that the location must be approved before the doctor is moved. They can advise what information they will need from you for approval.
It is important to make sure your deanery or local office has up to date information on the locations and we ask that you notify them of any changes.
Royal college or faculty
For new programmes, the local office or deanery will contact you for an email or letter of support. You should be clear and proportionate in the information you need from them when they request an endorsement.
College or faculty endorsement must be from a recognised college or faculty email address or contain a recognised letterhead and signatory.
While you are no longer required to review each new location proposed for training, you may be asked for assistance in reviewing whether the combination of locations proposed across the new programme will enable trainees to meet the requirements of the curriculum and assessments.
If you identify concerns about a training location not complying with our standards through your local networks or service review visits (if you undertake them), these should be shared with the local office or deanery and escalated to us if verified but not addressed.
