Your five steps to joining the PA and AA register if you were on a voluntary register

Regulation is a vital step towards strengthening patient safety and the safe delivery of care. Before you can join our PA and AA register, we'll check that you meet the standards that are required to join a regulated profession.

If you were on a voluntary register on 13 December 2024…

1. Wait for an email from us

We sent you an email in January 2025 to invite you to create a GMC Online account and apply. If you haven't received your invitation, please contact us.

2. Complete your application

Use your invitation, complete your application. We’ll ask you to please provide information including:

  • your registration and licensing history
  • your work history
  • an employer reference
  • a fitness to practise declaration
  • an indemnity and insurance declaration.

You'll also need to pay a registration fee.

3. Checks on your application

We’ll review the information you provide and check your employer reference.

  • If you’ve held registration elsewhere, we’ll ask you to provide evidence of good standing.
  • We may ask for additional information if needed to check you meet all our registration requirements.

As we assess your application, we’ll keep you updated by email. You should hear from us about next steps within ten working days.

4. Complete a digital identity check

We’ll ask you to complete a digital identity check. You can complete this using our approved app and you’ll need either your valid passport, identity card or full UK driving licence.

5. Confirming your registration

If you meet all our requirements, we'll email you to confirm your registration and the date we'll add you to the PA and AA register - congratulations!
