Your five steps to joining the PA and AA register if you were not on a voluntary register
Regulation is a vital step towards strengthening patient safety and the safe delivery of care. Before you can join our PA and AA register, we'll check that you meet the standards that are required to join a regulated profession.
If you were not on a voluntary register on 13 December 2024…
From 16 December 2024, visit our website and use our online tool to check if you're eligible to apply for registration. If you are, we'll ask you to set up a GMC Online account that you can use to complete your application.
2. Complete your application
Complete your application via your GMC Online account. We’ll ask you to provide information including:
- your qualification details and for PAs, your PA National Examination (PANE) pass details
- your registration and licensing history
- your work history
- a fitness to practise declaration
- an indemnity and insurance declaration.
You’ll also need to pay a registration fee.
3. Checks on your application
We’ll review the information you provide and...
- check your qualification details with your course provider. For PAs, we’ll also check your PANE pass with the Royal College of Physicians.
- We’ll ask you to provide an employer reference and where relevant, certificates of good standing from other regulators.
- We may ask for additional information if needed to check you meet all our registration requirements.
As we assess your application, we’ll update you and ask for further information by email. You should hear from us about next steps within ten working days.
4. Complete a digital identity check
We’ll ask you to complete a digital identity check. You can complete this using our approved app and you’ll need either your valid passport, identity card or full UK driving licence.
5. Confirming your registration
If you meet all our requirements, we'll email you to confirm your registration and the date we'll add you to the PA and AA register - congratulations!
