Duties of a doctor workshops

Our professional support programme

Could your doctors benefit from learning more about our guidance and how to apply it in practice? If so, we’re here to help.

What is it?

The Duties of a doctor programme is a series of free interactive workshops run within your organisation by one of our advisers.

The programme is typically made up of five or six workshops, held on a monthly basis. Workshops are designed with your input to make sure we meet the needs of your doctors. Each one focuses on a different ethical subject, helping doctors to understand how our guidance can support them in making difficult decisions in their practice.

A fantastic programme which I thoroughly enjoyed helping to organise. The practical exercises were particularly useful.

Who is it for?

The programme has been successfully delivered in organisations throughout England and is suitable for doctors at any stage in their career. Workshops are tailored for different audiences and can be delivered in either a primary or secondary care setting.

Contact your local adviser to discuss how the programme could work in your organisation.

What does the programme cover?

We will work with you to identify topics that are relevant and interesting to your chosen group of doctors. Previous programmes have included areas such as:

  • end of life care
  • personal beliefs and professional boundaries
  • raising concerns and duty of candour
  • consent
  • confidentiality
  • leadership and management.

We use a mixture of case studies and interactive learning techniques to bring the subject areas to life and show how our guidance applies in practice. We encourage doctors to reflect on their learning with the use of learning logs. These can later be used for the doctor’s appraisals and to support their continuous professional development.
