Welcome to UK practice
Are you new to working as a doctor in the UK?
Adapting to UK medical practice can be hard for any doctor, regardless of where you're from or how experienced you are. There can be significant differences in practising medicine in your home country and the UK, and it can be difficult to adjust to working in a new culture.
Our free Welcome to UK practice workshop is designed to help doctors new to the UK, by offering practical guidance about ethical scenarios you may encounter, and the chance to connect with other doctors coming from abroad.
Is the workshop for you?
If you gained your primary medical qualification outside of the UK then the workshop is for you.
If you have just passed the PLAB test, or If you’re ready to start your career in the UK, and have registered with a licence to practise or are just about to, then it is a great time for you to attend.
But if you’ve already started work it’s not too late, you’ll be in a great position to learn more about our essential guidance and let your fellow doctors know what things you wish you’d known before starting work.
How will the workshop help you?
Get practical guidance around a series of real‑life ethical scenarios, including areas where you’ll encounter differences in the UK, such as consent, confidentiality, raising concerns, care for children and young people, and prescribing.
Connect with peers
Meet other doctors, find out more about their experiences and share tips.
Be more confident to make the right choices when facing difficult ethical situations.
Meet a member of our liaison service, and have your questions answered by someone with a wealth of experience.
Take home a learning log to reflect on what you’ve learnt and share with your supervisor, and find out how to access our materials online.
