Gift and hospitality register
We are committed to acting with honesty, integrity and transparency in all our work. We publish this register as part of our commitment to transparency and accountability. It records gifts and hospitality offered to GMC staff during the reporting year.
All GMC staff are required to declare any gifts or hospitality offered to them with a value over £10, whether accepted or declined. This register provides details of gifts and hospitality offered to GMC staff during the reporting year. It includes whether they were accepted or refused and how they were handled.
Why we publish this information
As a regulator and a registered charity, it is important that our decisions are, and are seen to be, impartial. We must not allow our judgement to be influenced, or appear to be influenced, by gifts or hospitality from individuals or organisations with whom we have official dealings.
Our approach supports our legal obligations, including compliance with the Bribery Act 2010. It forms part of our wider governance arrangements.
How gifts and hospitality are managed
We have a clear internal policy that sets out how offers of gifts and hospitality must be handled.
Staff must not seek or canvass gifts or hospitality.
Any relevant offer over £10 must be recorded on our corporate Gifts and Hospitality Register, whether it is accepted or declined.
Where appropriate, approval is required from a manager or relevant senior colleague to determine how an offer should be treated. This may include returning a gift, sharing it with colleagues, donating it, or declining it.
Invitations to sporting, social or cultural events are not permitted and must be declined and recorded.
