Intensive care medicine
1. Approved Specialty Curriculum and Associated Assessment System 2011 - ICM Single
Doctors wishing to undertake training in the single specialty of Intensive care medicine (ICM) must follow the curriculum which was approved on 5 October 2011.
The first 2 years of core specialty training is either in Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS) or core medicine or Anaesthetics. From ST3 onwards training will be specific to ICM, a CCT in ICM (single) requires the completion of both core and higher approved training.
2. Approved Specialty Curriculum and Associated Assessment System 2010 - ICM Joint
Doctors wishing to undertake training in the specialty of Intensive care medicine (ICM) must acquire it jointly with one of the specialties of primary appointment of Anaesthesia, Emergency medicine, Medicine or Surgery.
The first 2 years of core specialty training is in Acute Care Common Stem (ACCS) or core medicine or Anaesthetics or Core Surgical Training. From ST3 onwards training will be specific to ICM, a CCT in ICM requires the completion of both core and higher approved training.
3. Approved Specialty Curriculum and Associated Assessment System 2007 - ICM Joint
Acute Care Common Stem
The ACCS curriculum element below has also been approved as an element of the ICM curriculum. Trainees who successfully complete ACCS training may join the above curriculum at an appropriate level.
Associated Assessment System
The Intercollegiate Committee for Acute Care Common Stem Training is in the process of providing to the GMC the assessment blueprint for ACCS.
