General (internal) medicine

Approved Specialty Curriculum and Associated Assessment System 2009

Specialty training in General (internal) medicine consists of a number of elements: Core training in ST1 (CT1) and ST2 (CT2), followed by specialty training from ST3 onwards, and underpinned throughout by training in ‘generic’ or ‘common’ competencies (ST1 onwards). Acute Common Care Stem (Medicine) trainees will also follow the ACCS training manual (pdf). 

Please note there are currently two GMC approved specialty curricula for General (internal) medicine. Please ensure that you refer to the correct curriculum as detailed below:

Trainees appointed from 1 August 2011 onwards

Specialty Curriculum

The GMC has approved the curriculum and associated assessment system for the specialty of General (internal) medicine. The documentation received from the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB) makes reference throughout to General Internal Medicine (Acute) which is not the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) specialty title.  The United Kingdom agreed CCT specialty in accordance with the Medical Act is General (internal) medicine.

Associated Assessment System
