Registration with a licence to practise for international medical graduates

To obtain registration with a licence to practise you must provide objective evidence of your knowledge and skills.

The possible ways are:

  1. 1. The Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test
  2. 2. Acceptable postgraduate qualifications
  3. 3. Sponsorship
  4. 4. Eligibility for specialist registration or GP registration (see below)

Eligibility for specialist registration or GP registration

If you have already been found eligible for entry onto the Specialist Register or the GP Register, you will hold one of the certificates listed below:

Specialist Specialist Training Authority (STA) Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST)
Specialist Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

Or

Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
Specialist GMC Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

Or

Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
GP The Joint Committee on Postgraduate Training for General Practice (JCPTGP) Certificate of Equivalent Experience
GP Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

Or

Certificate of Eligibility for GP Registration (CEGPR)

Or

Article 11 Certificate
GP GMC Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)

Or

Certificate of Eligibility for GP Registration (CEGPR)
  1. 5. If you hold one of the listed certificates, you may make an application for full registration and entry onto the Specialist Register or GP Register with existing evidence of eligibility
  2. 6. If you do not hold one of the listed certificates, you must apply for full registration and entry onto the Specialist Register or GP Register with a CESR or a CEGPR through the specialty equivalence route
