Revalidation - Doctors connecting to your lists

We’ve recently written to around 8,000 doctors asking them to confirm their designated body. These doctors have failed to respond to our requests to provide this information which means that their licences are now at risk.

You may notice some new doctors connecting to your organisation over the next few weeks.

While it’s very important that doctors keep their connection information up to date, we also need responsible officers and their teams to maintain accurate lists of their doctors on GMC Connect.

  • Keeping your list up-to-date means that you’ll always know about the doctors you’ll need to make a recommendation about. Maintaining your list in GMC Connect will make sure you have an accurate list of the doctors connected to your organisation for revalidation. You are required by law to maintain records of the evaluations made about your doctors’ fitness to practise, including their appraisals and any other investigations or assessments.
  • Doctors’ submission dates don’t change when they move to a new employer. This means that it’s really important you add doctors to your GMC Connect list when they join your organisation.
  • When you add a doctor to your list, the system will automatically send an email to the doctor, to let them know about their new connection for revalidation.
  • Of course, it’s equally important that you remove any doctors from your list that no longer have a connection to your organisation. When you do this, the doctor will receive an email to let them know you have removed them from your list.
  • As a responsible officer, you need to have oversight of the fitness to practise of all those doctors connected to your designated body. The GMC will disclose fitness to practise concerns about a doctor, including the progress of any investigation, with the relevant RO. You will also be able to discuss the concerns and share information with your GMC Employer Liaison Adviser, as RO for that doctor. Keeping your list up to date makes sure that you stay fully informed.
