Our fees to remain on the register

You need to pay your Annual retention fee (ARF) to remain on the register. You must also revalidate, which also incurs a fee. Both of these fees are detailed below.

How much to pay

Fees to remain on the medical register

Annual retention fee for registration with a licence to practise:
£3993 until 31 March 2020, £406 from 1 April 2020.

Annual retention fee for registration without a licence to practise:
£1433 until 31 March 2020, £145 from 1 April 2020.

Revalidation annual return fee:
£256 until 31 March 2020, £260 from 1 April 2020.

Revalidation assessment fee:
£1127 until 31 March 2020, £1146 from 1 April 2020.

3 Doctors whose gross annual worldwide income from all sources is below the specified income threshold, may be entitled to a 50% discount on the value of their annual retention fee. Further information can be found on our income discount page.

How to pay

Annual retention fee

We'll send your bill by email (post if you've opted out of e-billing) a month before your annual fee is due. It will show the type of fee and amount due. You can also view and print your bill by logging in to your GMC Online account.

To change how we send your bill, log in to GMC Online, click My Account and select 'Change my preference'.

Revalidation fees

You can pay your revalidation annual return using GMC Online when you submit your return.

You can pay your revalidation assessment fee, when you book your place to sit it using GMC Online.
