Our fees to remain on the register
You need to pay your Annual retention fee (ARF) to remain on the register. You must also revalidate, which also incurs a fee. Both of these fees are detailed below.
How much to pay
Fees to remain on the medical register
Annual retention fee for registration with a licence to practise:
£3903 from 1 April 2018 (previously £425 from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2018)
Annual retention fee for registration without a licence to practise:
£1403 from 1 April 2018 (previously £152 from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2018)
Fee for paying the annual retention fee in quarterly or monthly instalments:
£0 from 1 April 2018 (previously £8 from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2018)
Revalidation annual return fee:
£250 from 1 April 2018 (previously £250 from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2018)
Revalidation assessment fee:
£1100 from 1 April 2018 (previously £1100 from 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2018)
3 Doctors whose gross annual worldwide income from all sources is below the specified income threshold, may be entitled to a 50% discount on the value of their annual retention fee. Further information can be found on our income discount page.
How to pay
Annual retention fee
We'll send your bill by email (post if you've opted out of e-billing) a month before your annual fee is due. It will show the type of fee and amount due. You can also view and print your bill by logging in to your GMC Online account.
To change how we send you bill, log in to GMC Online, click My Account and select 'Change my preference'.
You can pay your revalidation annual return using GMC Online when you submit your return.
You can pay your revalidation assessment fee, when you book your place to sit it using GMC Online.
