Delays to specialist applications
We’re currently processing a large number of applications. Thank you for your patience - we’ll aim to progress your application as quickly as we can.

Minimum UK training time for each specialty

If you were previously granted with a CESR/CEGPR, because your training consisted of both non-approved and approved training posts, then you trained on a combined programme, and may be eligible for retrospective grant of a CCT if you meet the below criteria:

  • you have trained in approved UK training posts for the minimum number of years required for your specialty; or,
  • You trained in a specialty with no minimum training time.

The table below lists the minimum number of years you must have trained on a UK combined programme in order to be eligible for the retrospective grant of a CCT in each specialty.

Specialties with a minimum training time

If you meet the minimum training time, then you may be eligible for the retrospective grant of a CCT.

If you did not train in UK approved training posts for the minimum number of years stated below, you are not eligible.

This minimum training time stated is on the basis of full-time training. Those training less than full-time must meet the full-time equivalent training time.

Specialties without a minimum training time

These are specialties where the minimum training time is listed as ‘No minimum’. If you completed a combined programme in one of these specialties, you will be eligible for the retrospective grant of a CCT.
