Passing PLAB 2 over 2 years ago and applying for FR with a licence to practise

If you passed PLAB part 2 more than two years ago, you may still be able to apply for registration with a licence to practice using your PLAB 2 pass. 

Answer the questions in the table below and then read the instructions under the statement that fits you.

1. Do you want to apply for full registration with a licence to practice using a pass in PLAB 2?
2. Did you get your pass in PLAB 2 more than two years ago?
3. Do you have a valid IELTS pass or are you eligible to submit alternative evidence of your English language capability?
4. Did you get your pass in PLAB 2 in the last ten years?
5. Have you been in medical practice for at least three years in the most recent four and a half years?
6. Has at least six months of this practice been completed in the most recent 12 months?
7. Have all your medical posts within the last three years of medical practice been at least three months in duration?
8. Can you provide consultant reports which cover all these posts?

If you answered yes to all the questions above

You may still be able to apply for registration with a licence to practise using your PLAB 2 pass.

You answered no to question 1

If you don’t want to apply for full registration with a licence to practice using a pass in the PLAB 2 test, there are other options available to international medical graduates to register with us.

You answered no to question 2

If you want to apply for full registration with a licence to practice using a pass in the PLAB 2 test and received this pass in the last two years, you need to make your application on GMC Online.

You answered no to question 3

You must meet the English language requirements to be able to apply for registration with a licence to practice using a pass in your PLAB 2 test.

You answered no to any of questions 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8

You may still be able to apply for registration with a licence to practise using your PLAB 2 pass.

From 11 June 2018, once your primary medical qualification meets our acceptability criteria, you'll need to have it (and your acceptable postgraduate qualification) independently verified before we can grant your registration with a licence to practise.
