Coming to an identity check in the UK

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – identity checks

We’ve paused face to face identity checks, so we’ll grant your registration without an identity check. Your status on the medical register will mention this. You must not practise until you receive confirmation of your registration with us.

When travel and social contact restrictions are lifted, we’ll ask you to attend an identity check at our offices.

I took PLAB 2 on or after 2 October 2018

You will have an identity check when you come to take the PLAB 2 test. If we need more information we may invite you for a second identity check once we approve your application.

I took PLAB 2 before 2 October 2018

You will need to come for a second identity check and we will invite you to book one once we approve your application. These take place at our offices in Manchester and London.

You have three months from the date we approve your application to attend the identity check. If you live overseas, please make sure you can come to the UK in time for your identity check. We can't extend the time limit for the identity checks for any reason.

We'll also ask you to book a place on a Welcome to UK practice event. You might want to arrange this for the same day.

For more information about this, see our guidance on identity checks.
