Coming to an identity check in the UK

Urgent information regarding Identity checks – March 2020

Following the latest advice from the UK government, we have suspended identity checks at our office and as a result we will grant your registration without an identity check. Your status on the register will mention this. You must not practise until you have received separate confirmation from us that we’ve granted your registration.

When the UK government changes their advice about travel and social contact, we will ask you to attend an identity check at our offices, in line with our usual processes. We will get in touch to let you know when you can make a new appointment.

Attending an identity check

If we approve your application, we'll invite you to book your place at an identity check. These take place at our offices in Manchester and London.

You must have an identity check in the UK before we can grant your application.

At the identity check we'll take your photograph and check your original documents.

How do I arrange to come for an identity check?

Due to the continuing and developing impacts of Coronavirus (COVID-19) we have extended identity check deadlines to six months. This means that until further notice, you have a total of six months from the date on the ID check invitation email we sent to you when your application was approved to attend your ID check.

You have three months to attend an identity check once we have approved your application. If you live overseas, please make sure you can come to the UK in time for your identity check.

We'll also ask you to book a place on a Welcome to UK practice event. You might want to arrange this for the same day.

What if I cant attend within three months?

We can't extend the time limit for the identity checks for any reason.

For more information about this, see our guidance on identity checks.
