The selection process

How we select examiners

Any PLAB examiner job vacancies will be advertised on our vacancies page.

As part of our commitment to diversity, we seek members from a wide range of backgrounds. We actively encourage applications from black and minority ethnic doctors, women and doctors with a disability.

Applicants will be invited to complete an online application form. Those shortlisted will be invited to observe an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) and attend a training and assessment day.

The training and assessment day

The training day involves presentations about PLAB, the format of the part 2 examination and the marking scheme. Facilitators will conduct practice and coaching in small groups. Trainees will mark videos of both scripted and real candidates.

The assessment stage will involve marking filmed candidates. Trainees’ marks will be compared to those of a group of established examiners in the same stations. You will be notified if you have been successful after this stage.
