Provisional registration process - text version

  1. We'll email you between 7–9 April to invite you to apply for provisional registration
  2. Log on to GMC Online to complete your application. You'll need to:
    • check your details are correct
    • use our guides to understand what to declare
    • complete the fitness to practise and health declarations
    • We won't charge you for your registration this year
  3. We'll assess your application, and confirm you're fit to practise. If we need more information, we'll contact you to let you know.
  4. Your medical school will let us know you've graduated
  5. If everything is OK with your application, we'll grant your provisional registration and add your name to the medical register.
  6. Your options:
    1. Before you start your F1 post in August 2020, you could apply for an interim Foundation Year 1 (FiY1) post with the NHS. Visit the UK Foundation programme's website to find out more.
    2. Before you start your F1 post in August 2020, you could volunteer for a non-clinical role with the NHS. Visit the Medical Schools Council website to find out more. You must not undertake any duties of a doctor.
    3. If you're unable to work in an interim FY1 role or volunteer, you won't be adversely affected.
  7. Start you substantive F1 post in August.
