If doctors haven’t completed a GMC approved programme but are able to show they have the knowledge, skills and experience required by the approved curriculum for their specialty, they may apply for entry onto:
- the Specialist Register with a certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) through specialty equivalence, or
- the GP Register with a certificate of eligibility for GP registration (CEGPR) through specialty equivalence.
We won’t be able to discuss a doctor’s individual application with you directly unless they give us authorisation to do so. An applicant can set this up by calling us on 0161 923 6602.
It’s important that applicants review the current approved curriculum for their specialty, so they’re aware of the standards they will be required to demonstrate in their application. The list of curricula.
Specialty specific guidance
We have produced guidance on the documents that should be submitted for CESR and CEGPR applications, with the input of the relevant royal college or faculty. The specialty specific guidance.
