Take part in the consultation
Take part in our consultation on the updated Good medical practice, our guidance on the standards of care and professional behaviour we expect from all doctors and other medical professionals we’ll regulate in the future.
Will our proposed changes help to protect patients and uphold confidence in the professions we regulate? Do you think they’ll support medical professionals with the ethical challenges they face in their careers?
We want Good medical practice to be shaped by real experiences, and to be inclusive of all those who use it and are affected by it. Your perspectives will help make sure that the guidance supports high quality, fair and compassionate healthcare for all, for years to come.
The consultation is open from 27 April until 20 July 2022 and anyone can take part.
Complete one of our tailored surveys and share your views.
Begin the main survey
For organisations or individuals who want to review the updated guidance in detail.
You will need an account on the GMC/MPTS consultation platform to submit your response. This is different to your GMC Online account but is quick and easy to set up.
Healthcare professionals' survey
Begin the healthcare professionals' survey
For all healthcare professionals including doctors, physician associates, anaesthesia associates, students and others who work with them.
Part one focuses on the main new duties we’re proposing. Part two is optional and covers more specialist subjects.
It should take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete.
Join a free, online consultation event
We’re running a series of free, online consultation events in June and July. These are open to everyone and we’ll explore the core principles of the guidance and the main changes we’re proposing.
Read the updated guidance
You can read the updated version of Good medical practice, and an annotated version which explains the changes we're proposing, although this isn't necessary to complete the healthcare professionals' survey or patient survey, as we reference the changes within them.
The updated version of Good medical practice has an even greater focus on professional behaviours between colleagues and interactions with patients that are compassionate, civil, inclusive and fair.
We’ve listened to the feedback we’ve had about what makes healthcare settings positive places to work and safe places for patients. And we’ve carefully considered findings from a range of research, data and public inquiries. You can find out more about the proposed changes and how we’ve approached the review.
