Moving doctors in training to current specialty curricula

This document sets out our requirements for trainees to transfer to the most recent GMC approved curriculum.

Previously, some trainees remained on the same version of the curriculum throughout their training and this was unsatisfactory.

All trainees should transfer to the most recent curriculum and assessment system.

In effect this means that at any one time there will only be a maximum of two approved curriculum per specialty:

  • The 'old' one in which only trainees in their final year will remain, and
  • the 'current' curriculum.

This means that trainees are trained and assessed against the most recent standards for the specialty.
