Making a referral

Before you refer a doctor to us:

  1. Have you had advice from your Employer Liaison Advisor about whether to refer the doctor to us?
  2. Have you read our referral guidance?
  3. a. If your referral relates to insurance and indemnity issues, please read our guidance on I&I arrangements.

  4. If you are unable to access GMC Connect, you should contact your Employer Liaison Advisor who will be able to help. You can also download and complete the online referral form

         a.This form will tell you the relevant information and supporting evidence that you should provide with your referral. However, if your referral is urgent, you should email us straight away with as much detail about the concern as possible and indicate this as urgent in the email.





If you are unable to access GMC Connect, and have issues opening the online form

The file will not open in some browser windows, so you will need to download it directly to your computer and open it from there. The steps to do this are below:

  1. 1. Right click on the link and select ‘Save target as' or 'Save Link as'
  2. 2. Save a copy of the file to your computer
  3. 3. Open the file from the location on your computer
  4. 4. Complete the form and send the completed form to

Alternatively, if you click on the link and a new browser window opens, you can download the file from there, even though the file is not supported by the browser’s PDF viewer.

What happens next?

  • You will be updated on the outcome of this, normally within 7 days. 
  • You may be asked for some more information to help us decide if an investigation is required.
