Overseeing doctors’ education and training
We make sure doctors get the education and training they need to deliver high-quality care throughout their careers. We do this by setting standards for medical schools.
To make sure medical schools meet our standards, we monitor and inspect them. We ask medical students about their experiences and we respond to any concerns they raise.
We also set standards for postgraduate education and training. And we approve training posts, programmes and assessments.
To check postgraduate training, we perform reviews and carry out monitoring activities. These include our annual survey of trainees. The results help us identify and tackle any concerns – to make sure doctors get the supervision and experience they need.
To support doctors throughout their careers we create learning resources and give advice about professional development.
