What is its purpose?
The board was set up as part of the GMC’s Supporting Vulnerable Doctors programme. This programme was developed following a review of our fitness to practise processes from the perspective of the health and wellbeing of those involved, overseen by Professor of Psychiatry, Louis Appleby. The review identified a need for a mechanism to ensure that the GMC continues to have expert input to advise and provide challenge in relation to the health and wellbeing of those in GMC procedures, and the board was set up to meet that need. Following feedback from key stakeholders about the membership for the board, it comprises representatives from the lead bodies for psychiatrists, GPs and occupational health physicians, as well as an individual doctor representative. It held its inaugural meeting on 10 September 2018.
