Why is this important?
All doctors have a duty to raise concerns where they believe that patient safety or care is being compromised by the practice of colleagues, or the systems, policies and procedures in the organisations in which they work.
We want to support all doctors to raise concerns, whatever their grade, speciality or location. And doctors need to know that when they do, action will be taken to resolve them.
This issue needs a system wide response from the health services in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We are working with partners across the UK to make sure doctors and other healthcare professionals are supported to raise concerns.
The starting point is different in each of the UK countries, but there is significant scope for us and other organisations to make important improvements.
