We virtually welcomed over 500 people from across the UK. Each day was filled with inspirational speakers, interactive workshops, and insightful panel sessions.
Keynote speech summaries
Council chair, Dame Clare Marx opened the conference by sharing her reflections on the innovations and flexibility in training for the COVID-19 generation. Highlighting the creation of the Interim Foundation Year One (FIY1) post, she also specified other areas that needed to evolve to better prepare the doctors of the future.

Lord Victor Adebowale, Chair of NHS Confederation, delved into the important role of system leaders, how they should be questioning the system and engaging with change makers to support their future focused on solutions to improve the system and health outcomes.

Our chief executive, Charlie Massey drew from our recent research reports to share his reflections on the twin challenges of recruitment and retention in developing a sustainable medical workforce.
With the over 15% increase in doctors with a blank and minority ethnic (BME) background joining the workforce in 2020, he also spoke about BME doctors’ experiences in medicine and the various forms of structural discrimination they continue to face.

Our final keynote was delivered by Founder and Chief Executive of Melanin Medics, Olamide Dada. She talked about her passion for African and Caribbean medical professionals to thrive without their existence being clouded by racism and discrimination.
