Getting to our Edinburgh office

Our Edinburgh office is based at:

  • 5th Floor,
    The Tun,
    4 Jackson’s Entry,
    Edinburgh EH8 8PJ

We’re open from 9 am–5 pm, Monday to Friday. Visits by appointment only.

To make sure we can meet your requirements, please speak to your GMC contact in advance to confirm the arrangements for your visit.

Our office is based in the large, copper-and-glass-fronted building on Holyrood Road. The entrance is to the left of the building as you look at it from Holyrood Road, on the small side street Jackson’s Entry.

There are a number of organisations based in the building. However, access to our office is by a private lift on the left as you enter the building. Please ring the GMC intercom and a member of staff will send down the lift for you. The building security team can’t give access to our office, so please just contact us directly.

Local amenities

There are also a number of sandwich shops, coffee shops and restaurants along Holyrood Road.

The nearest supermarket is on the corner of Holyrood Road and Hammermen’s Entry.

The nearest chemist is on The Royal Mile, where you will also find a range of other shops.

Local transport

The building is a 15-minute walk, or five minute taxi ride, from Waverley train station.

The office is well served by buses – the number 35 and 36 stop near our office. Also, all Edinburgh sightseeing buses stop at the Our Dynamic Earth attraction, 100 yards from The Tun. For more information about particular routes, go to

There is a dedicated taxi drop off and collection point in front of the building on Holyrood Road.

Unfortunately we can’t offer designated car parking to members of the public. Nearby car parks are at Our Dynamic Earth on Holyrood Road (postcode EH8 8AS), St John’s NCP on Holyrood Road (postcode EH8 9UQ), or on Queen’s Drive, outside Holyrood Palace (postcode EH8 8AZ).

Finding your way around the building

Our offices are on the fifth floor of the building. Please call up to the office on the intercom and a member of staff will let you in.

There are toilets, including a disabled toilet, on the left hand side as you enter the office from the lift.

Emergency procedures

The fire alarm is tested every Monday at 10.30 am. If an alarm sounds at any other time, or if the alarm continues to sound after a few seconds, it means that you should evacuate the building.

Please leave the building by your nearest emergency exit. You can find this by following the green emergency exit signs. Once you are outside, please go immediately to our assembly point on Gentle’s Entry (on the other side of Pizza Express). You should report to our fire marshal, who will be wearing a florescent yellow bib and carrying a GMC lollipop.

If you have an impairment that means you can’t hear the alarm or need help to evacuate the building, please tell the person you are visiting. They will make sure that you have a buddy – someone who will make sure that you get safely out of the building in the event of an emergency.

If you or someone around you is injured or unwell and needs first aid, please seek the assistance of the health and safety warden. If they are not available, please ask another member of staff who will be able to provide assistance or contact the building’s reception. In the case of an emergency when there is nobody to offer assistance, please contact the emergency services directly on 999 (dial 9 for an outside line first if using our office phones).
