Disability
The Employers Forum website provides:
- The Disability Communication Guide: a comprehensive quick reference guide covering language and etiquette
- advice on specific impairments and preferred models of assistance
- practical advice on how to recognise and avoid attitudes and behaviour which can create misunderstandings and barriers.

Ethnicity - groups
King's Fund is an independent charitable organisation working for better health. See the links section on black and ethnic minority groups.
HIV and AIDS
National Aids Trust website: This Healthcare Pack (for non-specialists) addresses HIV-related stigma and discrimination in healthcare, including existing guidance and guidelines.
Mental health
The Scottish Development Centre for Mental Health runs a Mental Health ‘First Aiders’ course for the co-workers and friends of people with mental ill-health.
Refugees
The Refugee Council website provides information and training courses for service providers on:
- the cultural aspects of working with refugees and asylum seekers
- the emotional wellbeing of refugee young people
- recruiting and retaining refugee jobseekers.
Sexual orientation
Gay and Lesbian Association of Doctors and Dentists
Publications include Bullying and Homophobia - Gay and Lesbian Doctors and Dentists - Challenging Workplace Bullying and Homophobia in the NHS (2000).
Training
The National Primary Care Research and Development Centre runs a seminar programme for healthcare professionals.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development website lists training providers and consultancy practices specialising in Equality and Diversity.
The Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS) provides courses in Scotland, Wales, and all over England on Equality, Equal Opportunities and Diversity and Sexual Orientation and Religion or Belief Regulations, as well as on all other aspects of employment legislation and good practice.
The British Association for Services to the Elderly provides education, training and consultancy services, e.g. dementia care.
The Centre for Research in Primary Care at the University of Leeds, Ethnicity Training Network was created ‘to change the way that people think and work in health and social care services’ and provides training courses on ethnicity and health.
Cambridge University website: This Disability Equality Trainers Database covers the UK and can be viewed by region/country or by specialism.
