Guidance for paediatricians in child protection to be reviewed
Guidance for paediatricians involved in child protection work will be reviewed by the GMC following the Appeal Court’s ruling that Dr David Southall’s erasure from the medical register should be reversed.
An expert group will carry out the review to provide clarity and reassurance about what is expected in this critically important area of healthcare.
GMC’s Chief Executive Niall Dickson said:
'In spite of the fact that it is rare for paediatricians involved in child protection to find themselves facing action by the GMC, there is no doubt that this case has caused considerable concern within the paediatric community. This is vital and difficult work and nothing should deter professionals from undertaking it, to protect vulnerable children across the UK.'
