News: GMC goes to parliament
10 November 2009
GMC holds surgery for politicians in Westminster.
Politicians from all parties had the chance to put their own questions to the GMC in November at a special event held in the Palace of Westminster.
The GMC’s first ever Parliamentary Surgery, which took place on 10 November, was designed to help parliamentarians find out more about the GMC. GMC Chair, Peter Rubin met with MPs and peers to discuss what revalidation means for doctors and the public, and to provide them with an opportunity to seek advice on how to deal with specific constituency casework issues.
He explained: ‘We were keen to meet parliamentarians in person and not only answer their questions and discuss revalidation and the introduction of the licence to practise, but also to demonstrate the GMC’s new online initiatives Patients’ help and Good Medical Practice in Action.’
GMC staff were on hand to answer questions throughout the day. Parliamentarians from all of the main political parties attended, as did several of their researchers.
