A greener way to distribute GMCtoday.

Every couple of months, I receive the GMC newsletter, GMCtoday. I find it very useful. It is concise and it gives regular updates on important changes in the health service.

My wife gets GMCtoday on the same day. In a survey of 1,208 physicians in Ohio, 44% of female physicians and 22% of male physicians were married to physicians.

I can’t think of a reason why the figures would be hugely different in the United Kingdom. As green issues are on top of every agenda, can the GMC consider giving the option of one newsletter to dual-doctor families?

It will save money, trees and may even lead to a reduction in its subscription! Just a thought.

Many thanks for your constructive ideas. We do receive a number of requests from married doctors to receive only one copy of GMCtoday as there is an opt-out box which you can tick on the address sheet with which GMCtoday is sent to you. The GMC is very keen on making sure its processes have minimum impact on the environment. GMCtoday itself is printed on FSC-accredited paper which means the paper comes from forests that are managed to ensure long-term timber supplies while protecting the environment and the lives of forestdependent peoples. We have also introduced biodegradable polythene for the GMCtoday packaging.
