News: Interactive approach
25 May 2009
A theatrical performance is part of the GMC's innovative approach to consulting on end of life care.
Following the launch of the consultation into End of Life care, the GMC is seeking to encourage as many people as possible to have their say and get involved. A number of interactive events are happening across the UK to stimulate discussion and provide new ways of thinking about this complex issue.
On 3 June 2009, the GMC is holding a UK consultative conference in London which features an interactive theatrical performance.
This is designed to get people thinking about some of the issues around End of Life care such as advance care planning, resuscitation and care after death. Invited delegates include representatives from patient groups, the Royal Colleges and the Department of Health, who will discuss a number of topics during the day including organ donation and advance requests and refusals of treatment.
Baroness Finlay of Llandaff will be attending to provide a clinician’s perspective; Professor Judith Hill, CEO of Northern Ireland Hospice Care, will also share her thoughts on team working in End of Life care. Events have also been held in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
MPs and peers were also invited to contribute to the consultation at a meeting held in Parliament, which was chaired by Kevin Barron MP, Commons Health Select Committee Chair. You can sign up to podcasts of the event on the GMC website.
The podcasts will feature speeches from working group Chair, Lady Eames.
