Reviewing the shape of training: call for evidence now open
Earlier this year, a major review of the shape of training, chaired by the Vice Chancellor of Nottingham University Professor David Greenaway, was commissioned.
This review will make sure that postgraduate medical training continues to provide the high quality specialists and GPs needed to treat a changing population of patients.
Who is carrying out the review?
The review has been jointly sponsored by the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, the Conference of Postgraduate Medical Education Deans, the GMC, Medical Education England, Medical Schools Council, NHS Education Scotland, NHS Wales and the Northern Ireland Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety.
What is the review considering?
There are five key themes for the review:
- the balance of the medical workforce
- flexibility of training
- the needs of the health service
- the needs of patients
- the breadth and scope of training.
How can I take part?
A call for written evidence is now open and you can use this to give your views and influence the review.
The call for evidence closes on 8 February 2013.
What’s happened so far?
The review team has met with a number of key individuals involved in medical education and training, commissioned research to help inform its thinking and begun to visit sites where training takes place. Further site visits, seminars, workshops and focus groups are also planned.
You can find out more about the review on the Shape of Training website.
