The new issue of GMCtoday has been published. The highlights in this issue include:

 

Consultation on Tomorrow’s Doctors

Medical students, NHS employers and the public are asked to give their views on the new Tomorrow’s Doctors guidance, which is due to be published in Summer 2009.  The guidance will set the standards in undergraduate medical education.  (NB: A medical student is available for pre-arranged interviews).

 

Introducing the reconstituted council

The 24 members of the reconstituted council are presented.  For the first time, the council comprises of an equal number of medical and lay members.

 

Help and support for doctors

The GMC’s procedures offer help and support for doctors who themselves become the patient through ill health or addiction. GMCtoday hears first hand, the poignant account of one doctor’s battle with addiction and of his experiences of GMC fitness to practise hearings.

  • An interview with heroic doctor David Nott who, performed a life-saving amputation on a boy via text message instructions while volunteering in the DR Congo,
