GMC announces nominations for Council Chair

The nominations for the Chair of the Council of the GMC have been announced.

The nominations for the Chair of the Council of the GMC have been announced today, 10 March 2009. 

The nominations are as follows:

  • Dr John Jenkins CBE[i]
     
  • Mrs Ann Robinson[ii]
     
  • Professor Peter Rubin[iii] 

Nominations were invited following the second meeting of the GMC’s Council on 25 February 2009.  All Council members were eligible to stand.

Following the Council meeting on 26 March 2009, Electoral Reform Services will conduct the ballot and will count and validate the votes. 

The outcome will be announced on 6 April 2009. The new Chair will take up office between 6 April 2009 and the end of June 2009, on a date to be agreed. 

The new Chair will hold the office until 31 December 2012.


[i]After training in Belfast and Toronto John Jenkins was appointed Consultant Paediatrician in 1982 and subsequently Senior Lecturer in child Health at Queen’s University Belfast. He has been a member of the General Medical Council since 2003 and has previously chaired the Standards and Ethics Committee which led the development of standards and guidance for all UK doctors. He is also a member of the UK Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board and has been elected chairman of its Training Committee.

[ii] Ann Robinson is currently a partner in Rush Strategic Consultancy, Director of Consumer Policy, USwitch Ltd, Director of Public Awareness, FAS Safe Register and a trustee of the Mario Borrelli Naples Fund.  She has worked in the Civil Service, and her positions held have included the Chief Executive of Scope, and the Executive Chair, Energywatch.

Peter Rubin is currently a Board member of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, Chairman, University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine Project Board and practises as a Physician
