Regulating doctors, ensuring good medical practice

Consultation on Good Management Practice: guidance for all doctors

4 March

The GMC is consulting on draft guidance Good Management Practice: guidance for all doctors and two pieces of supplementary guidance: Raising and acting on concerns about patient safety and Writing references.

The consultation is part of the review of the GMC's guidance from 2006, Management for doctors and supplementary guidance Raising concerns about patient safety.

The revised draft, Good Management Practice, sets out doctors' wider responsibilities in relation to employment issues including teaching and training, planning, using and managing resources, raising and acting on concerns and participating in service improvement and development.

The guidance will apply to all doctors - regardless of whether they are inside or outside the NHS, whether they work directly with patients or outside of clinical care, or whether they have a formal managerial role or responsibility.
