Regulating doctors, ensuring good medical practice

Regional and National Workshops to Support the Implementation of Tomorrow's Doctors (2009)

Following the comprehensive review of the standards for basic medical education and the publication of Tomorrow's Doctors (2009), the GMC is aware that medical schools and their curricula will be at various stages of compliance currently.

We want to work with medical schools and their key partners to ensure that all medical schools will meet the standards by the beginning of the academic year 2011/12. We will therefore be holding a series of regional and national workshops to support the implementation of Tomorrow's Doctors (2009).

During the workshops the GMC will update stakeholders on key strategic priorities and provide an overview of the key changes in Tomorrow's Doctors (2009) and quality assurance of basic medical education (QABME) development 2010-12.

Medical Schools, employers and postgraduate deaneries will come together to discuss how schools are approaching planning and implementation of the new standards by 2011/12, deaneries' role in relation to the new standards and the employer's perspective.

The workshops will also provide an opportunity for medical schools, postgraduate deaneries/foundation schools and employers to discuss on the challenges and opportunities associated with the revised standards, key regional issues and quality assurance against the new standards by the regulator.
