Gateways guidance: 15.9 Teaching and learning in the clinical arena
Although periods of prescribed clinical work are set out in postgraduate curricula, it is no longer a requirement for full GMC registration with a licence to practise to have completed surgical and medical attachments while provisionally registered. This changed when Sections 10 to 13 of the Medical Act were replaced by Section 10A.
Neither the Foundation Programme curriculum nor any specialty training curriculum makes any special provision for disabled trainees. That provision will derive from the legislative framework outlined in this guidance. According to the Foundation Programme curriculum, the competence on behaviour in the workplace requires that in all interactions with patients or colleagues a Foundation doctor takes account of factors pertaining to the individual’s age, colour, culture, disability, ethnic or national origin, gender, lifestyle, marital or parental status, race, religion or beliefs, sexual orientation, or social or economic status.
