Our role in medical education and training
The GMC regulates medical education and training in the UK to make sure that it produces doctors who are trained to deliver high levels of patient care and safety.
To do this, we set standards and then check that education and training providers, as well as medical students and trainee doctors, are working to these standards.
Our role in medical education and training explains more.

How to make a complaint about education or training
The best way to raise any concerns that you may have about medical education and training is to do so where you received care.
So, for example, if you were seen by a trainee doctor at a local hospital and you were not comfortable with the way that trainee doctor was supervised, you should raise this concern with the hospital first.
However, if you have already raised your concern locally and you are not satisfied that it has been dealt with appropriately, the GMC may be able to look into it.
We will ask you questions to learn more about your situation. If you have not yet raised your concern where you received care, or if we are not the most appropriate organisation for you to contact, then we will let you know who you should contact instead.
If local processes have already been used and the issue relates to GMC standards, then we may refer the issue to our Response to Concerns process.
