General Medical Council
Regulating doctors, ensuring good medical practice
08 Mar 2011
The GMC sets out how we will quality assure undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training in the UK from 2011-2012.
For the first time regulation of all stages of medical education and training is undertaken by a single body. We have therefore taken a coordinated approach across undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training in the Quality Improvement Framework (QIF).
The QIF sets out how we will work with organisations such as medical schools, postgraduate deaneries, colleges/faculties and other healthcare systems regulators.
We are building on the success of the Quality Assurance of Basic Medical Education (QABME) process, the Quality Assurance of the Foundation Programme (QAFP) process and the Quality Framework (QF).
We will undertake a series of events across the UK to support implementation of the QIF in late spring and early summer. If you have any questions in the meantime please email quality@gmc-uk.org.
