General Medical Council
Regulating doctors, ensuring good medical practice
01 Nov 2010
The GMC and key interest groups have agreed on the way forward on the regulation of national professional examinations.
At a recent meeting with key interest groups it was agreed that the issues around the regulation of national professional examinations which contribute to postgraduate training are complex and need more detailed engagement with all those involved before decisions can be reached. As a result, the GMC will be seeking views on these matters early in 2011. We will provide further details of this nearer the time, but we will make sure the process is as wide-ranging and inclusive as possible.
In the meantime doctors who are already in specialty training, or who enter speciality training by 31 October 2012, will be able to have any valid passes in previously approved national professional examinations counted towards a CCT, even if they were obtained outside approved training.
