General Medical Council
Regulating doctors, ensuring good medical practice
01 Apr 2010
On 1 April 2010 the GMC became responsible for regulating every stage of medical education in the UK.
The new arrangements follow the merger of the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board (PMETB) with the GMC, creating a simpler and clearer framework for the regulation of medical education and training.
This is the first time a single organisation has been charged with overseeing all stages of a doctor's career.
For further details see the GMC press release.
