24 May 2012

The 2012 survey of medical trainees across the UK has opened and will run until 15 June.

The National Training Survey is an annual survey of trainee doctors' views on postgraduate medical education and training in the UK. It forms a part of the GMC's evidence base to inform our quality assurance activity, and is one of the largest surveys of its kind in the world.

This year, following feedback from trainees, engagement meetings with deaneries and Royal Colleges across the UK, and liaison with survey and statistics experts, we have introduced several new features to the survey.

  • The survey includes a specific question on whether trainees have concerns over patient safety.
  • Participants will complete their survey through GMC Online.
  • We have shortened the survey by 50%.
  • We will deliver the results using an new online reporting tool making the reports easier to navigate and far more flexible.

The survey is open this year from 30 April until 15 June.
