Regulating doctors, ensuring good medical practice
18 Oct 2011
The GMC has issued a position statement on arrangements for specialty trainees in less than full-time training (LTFT).
Following consultation with key interests, the GMC's Postgraduate Board has reviewed its requirements and concluded that a minimum time requirement for LTFT should be re-established for specialty trainees working towards a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).
In effect, trainees will be required to undertake no less than 50% of full-time training.
Postgraduate deans will have flexibility to reduce the time requirement further in exceptional cases, to an absolute minimum of 20% of full-time training, with an expectation that this will be for not more than 12 months.
