Research into impact of European Working Time Regulations

The GMC is carrying out a programme of research to identify the impact of the EWTR on postgraduate training in the UK.

The first stage of the research, which focused on exploring the experiences of European regulatory bodies and other organisations in implementing the European Working Time Regulations (EWTR), has been completed, and the report is now available.

Building on the findings of this stage of the research we will commission a second stage, focusing on the impact of compliance and non-compliance with EWTR on rota design and fatigue among trainees.
